Bill Summerhill

Dr. Summerhill earned his B.A. at Shippensburg State University, an M.Div. at Wesley Theological Seminary, an M.A. and Ph.D. at The Catholic University of America. An ordained minister in the United Methodist Church with membership in the Susquehanna Annual Conference, Bill served as associate pastor and choir director at the Rockville Christian Church before becoming pastor of the Roxbury Charge and later chaplain and director of public relations for the Quincy United Methodist Home.

His life as an educator began when he was hired at the Wyoming Seminary (which is neither in Wyoming nor a seminary) in Kingston, Pennsylvania in 1986.  In his twenty-two years at Seminary he served as Academic Dean, Senior Chaplain, and member of the history and English departments. The Ascension Academy Board of Regents hired Dr. Summerhill in the Spring of 2008 to join the Ascension Family as Head of School. He assumed his duties in July of 2008.

Dr. Summerhill is a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church where he sings in the adult choir and regularly teaches several adult Sunday school classes.  An avid supporter of the Panhandle arts community, Bill and his wife, Patti, take an active part in the life of Amarillo Opera.  He participates in the Amarillo Rotary Club and serves on the Board of Managers of the Greenways neighborhood.

Bill and Patti have two grown children living in Connecticut and Denver, and they are blessed with four grandchildren.  In Amarillo they share their home with Odie and Champ, their miniature schnauzer home security team.
