Wind Ensemble

The Ascension Academy Wind Ensemble is now a well-established and thriving part of the arts at Ascension.  Since its inception in 2013, our Wind Ensemble, or Wind Band as it is also called, has grown exponentially both in numbers and in aspirations.

Highlights include:

Earning Best-in-class at the Winter Park Ski-Music Festival in 2015

Performing jazz with Patrick Swindell

Commissioning two pieces of original music from composers Eric Rath and Dr. BJ Brooks.

Performing symphonic Literature with our award-winning choir and orchestra

Instructor Mrs. Kellie Bartley holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The University of Texas at Austin with a Horn Performance Certificate and all-level teacher's certificate.  She has been a member of the French Horn section of the Amarillo Symphony since 2007 and continues to collaborate with Chamber Music Amarillo, Amarillo Opera, Amarillo Master Chorale and local faith communities.

Kellie has taught orchestra and band programs in Houston, Boston, and currently teaches part-time with Amarillo ISD as well as directing the ascension Wind Ensemble Program.  Mrs. Bartley has been teaching young musicians since 1995.

Entry-level instruments include: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet and trombone.

No experience of any kind is required to participate. Percussion instruments are not part of the program.  Other instruments may be permitted with Mrs. Bartley's approval.
