On Friday, January 26, 2024 Ascension Academy 6th-grader, Arnav (Arnie) Parat, placed 1st in the Randall Co Spelling Bee. The winning word was "exiguous". Additionally, Ascension Academy 8th-grader, Mihir Chandra came in 2nd place in the competition.

Earlier in January, the two competed at the school's middle school spelling bee to determine who would move on to the Randall County Spelling Bee. In this competition, Arnie came in 2nd after Mihir won with the word "propitious". Mihir won Ascension's Middle School Spelling Bee 3 years in a row and also won runner-up at the Randall County Spelling Bee in 2023.

Fellow 6th-grader, Jithin Nambiar represented Ascension Academy in the Randall County Spelling Bee along with Arnie and Mihir.

Arnie is slated to move on to the Regional Spelling Bee in mid February.
